Applying for Dubai Jobs from Pakistan or India

What to change: phone format, the location line, home-country notice, and how UAE MOFA describes degree attestation. No invented sponsorship promise.

By Salman Ahmed · Last updated 16 Oct 2026 · 7 min read

CVPage is an independent free help site, not affiliated with MOHRE, ICP, GDRFA or any UAE government body. This is general guidance, not legal advice. Confirm with MOHRE or your employer before acting.

A CV that got interviews in Lahore or Pune often stalls in Dubai for boring reasons: the phone has no country code, the header says seeking opportunities in Gulf, and the degree is described as attested when the stamps are not finished. Change the logistics. Keep the work history honest. This is not a promise that an employer will sponsor you.

MoHRE lists a work permit to recruit a worker from outside the UAE. The employment-process page says a signed offer is attached to the initial approval that allows entry, and the contract is registered with the ministry. Your CV should show that you understand you are outside that process until an employer starts it.

What should the location line say?

Name the city you live in today. Then one clause on Dubai. Michael Page Middle East says a simple line on availability to move is enough, and that you do not need to over-explain relocation.

Location lines that do not pretend you are already in the UAE
Karachi, Pakistan. Open to relocation to Dubai. Needs an employer to recruit from outside the UAE.
Bengaluru, India. Open to Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Not currently on a UAE residence visa.
Wrong: Dubai based, immediately available, GCC experience (one project visit in 2019).

Michael Page's Middle East CV note asks candidates to be clear about location and mobility, and to avoid heavy graphics so both people and software can read the file.

How should the phone number be written?

Use the international form. A Pakistani mobile is +92, then the number without the leading 0. An Indian mobile is +91, then the ten digits. If you also have a UAE SIM, add +971 on a second line and label it UAE. Do not write 050 for a number that only works inside the Emirates if you are not there to answer it.

  • Before: 0300 1234567 / 050 123 4567 (the second number is a friend's).
  • After: +92 300 1234567 (Pakistan, primary). No UAE number yet.
  • Before: Call me on WhatsApp anytime.
  • After: +91 98400 00000. Email is the reliable channel across time zones.

What notice period do you write from Pakistan or India?

Write the notice in your current contract, in the country where you work now. UAE Article 43, the 30 to 90 day band, applies to employment the federal labour law covers inside the UAE. It does not rewrite a Pakistani or Indian appointment letter. If your notice is 90 days in Karachi, the CV says 90 days. Calling yourself immediately available because you hope to buy out the notice is a claim you must be able to fund and your employer must accept.

Once you are employed in the UAE, the number changes. That case is the UAE notice-period guide

What does attested degree mean on a CV?

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a document issued outside the UAE must be attested by the foreign ministry of the issuing country, then by the UAE embassy or consulate in that country through MoFA's channels, then in the UAE through mofa.gov.ae or the MOFA app. A certificate and a transcript are two documents. Laminated documents are rejected.

Sources we used: UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs: attestation FAQ

On the CV, use one of three words: attested (only if the UAE MOFA step is done), in progress (say which step), or not started. Do not write HRD attested as if that were the same as MOFA. Home-country steps come before the UAE embassy, and your own foreign ministry tells you what they need before they stamp. I am not listing a Pakistan or India agency sequence here, because those checklists change and the UAE requirement is the one MoFA publishes.

MoFA's courier options inside the UAE, normal or express, are only the UAE leg. They are not the time for a degree that is still at a university in another country. Do not put a turnaround promise on the CV.

What else should change from a home-country CV?

  • Drop the photograph if it is a casual one. Read the Dubai photo guide before you add a new one.
  • Drop father's name, marital status, and religion unless a form demands them.
  • Add nationality and the line that you need sponsorship.
  • Spell the employer and the city. A reader in Dubai may not know a local abbreviation.
  • Put Gulf or remote work in its real country. A two-week site visit is not Dubai experience.
  • Keep one column. Many Indian templates use two columns that parse badly.

What is a send checklist?

Checklist before you apply from Pakistan or India
City and country are the place I sleep this month.
Phone starts with +92 or +91, and any +971 number is mine.
Nationality is the passport I will travel on.
Visa line says I need an employer to recruit from outside the UAE.
Notice matches my current contract, including a buyout only if it is agreed.
Degree line says attested, in progress, or not started, matching the stamps.
No passport number on the PDF.
Bullets name tools and scope I can discuss on a call.

What should you know about gratuity before you accept?

A job in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE private sector can end with an end-of-service gratuity. For a full-time foreign worker the federal clause is Article 51: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years, then 30 days a year, after one continuous year. Allowances such as housing stay out of those days. A free-zone contract can name a different authority. Read the offer before you treat a forum post as the rule, and do not invent a gratuity figure on the CV.

The federal rules, including how two years is counted, are in UAE labour law gratuity

JAFZA and DDA each publish their own pages. What those pages say, and what they do not settle, is in JAFZA and DDA gratuity

Who pays for the visa and the flight?

The UAE government portal says the employer pays the entry visa, travel to the UAE, the medical test, and the residence permit for an expatriate hired into the private sector. Do not offer to cover those costs in the CV or the cover letter.

How do you talk about a visit you already made?

If you are in Dubai on a visit visa while your home is in Lahore, say both. Inside the UAE on a visit entry permit, residence still in Pakistan, work cannot start until MoHRE issues a permit. That is more useful than hiding the visit or pretending the visit is residence. The visa-status guide has the labels.

Common questions

Should I get a UAE number before I apply?

Only if it is yours and you will answer it. A borrowed 050 number wastes the reader's call. A clear +92 or +91 number is better.

My degree is apostilled at home. Is that UAE attestation?

Not by itself. MoFA's FAQ still requires the issuing country's foreign ministry, the UAE mission, and then attestation in the UAE. Say where you are in that chain.

Should the CV be in Arabic?

Send English unless the advert asks for Arabic. If you work in Arabic, say so under languages with an honest level.

Can the resume tool invent a Dubai address for me?

No. CVPage AI must not add a city, a visa, or a metric you did not write.
