What should you fix before an ATS search?

Last updated 6 Oct 2026

These notes are for the file you upload, not for a designed PDF you hand to someone. I wrote them as the person who built CVPage AI. I do not recruit, and I do not invent parser scores. If the file came from Canva, the separate note is can an ATS read a Canva resume or a PDF?.

Which guide should you open?

See the reading order of your own file in the ATS parser test. It is a generic preview, not Workday or Greenhouse . When the layout pastes cleanly, compare one job ad on check your resume against a job description. If the lines sound like a template, use the AI resume hub instead of adding more keywords.

What do these ATS guides answer?

Does an ATS reject every PDF?▼
No. Most systems store the application so a person can search it. A file that pastes in the wrong order is harder to find. A clean file can still be skipped if the wording is vague.
Should I copy the job ad into my skills list?▼
Only the terms that match work you did. A copied list can raise a word count and still fail a phone screen.
Is this a test of Greenhouse or Workday?▼
No. The guides explain parsing and keywords. They do not publish a pass rate for any vendor.

How should you move through these ATS guides?

Read the parsing guide if a PDF comes back as one column of junk or if you built the file in a table. Read the keyword guide after the file pastes in the right order. A clean file with vague bullets still loses the skim. The checker then compares your CV with one job ad.

The parser test on this site shows the text a simple reader pulls out. It is not Workday and not Greenhouse. Use it to see whether your name, dates, and job titles survived. Then put a real term inside a bullet that shows the work, instead of a skills list copied from the posting.

None of these guides publish a pass rate. An employer can search the file and still skip it. The useful outcome is a CV a person can read in order, with words you used in the job.
