How is final settlement calculated in the UAE?
Add four amounts. Gratuity is 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years, then 30 days a year, once service reaches one year, and it stops at two years of wage. Unused annual leave is cashed on basic wage. Notice pay, for days you do not serve, uses basic wage plus allowances. Salary already earned and still unpaid is the figure you type. One day is the monthly figure times 12, divided by 365. This is an estimate for a full-time foreign worker under the federal private-sector rules. Not legal advice.
Fictional worked example
Inputs: basic AED 3,650.00 a month, allowances AED 365.00 a month, 2025-01-01 through 2025-12-31, unpaid leave 0 days, unused leave 5 days, notice not served 10 days, unpaid salary AED 500.00.
Outputs from this calculator: service 365 days, basic day rate AED 120.00, total-wage day rate AED 132.00, gratuity AED 2,520.00, leave AED 600.00, notice AED 1,320.00, unpaid salary AED 500.00, total AED 4,940.00.
What do the worked examples come to?
These rows are computed by the same function as the form. A basic wage of AED 3,650 makes the day rate AED 120, which is easier to check by hand.

How much leave salary do these months produce?
Unused days times the basic day rate. The settlement form above still uses the unused days you type there.
- Accrued annual leave
- 30 days
- Unused days
- 20 days
- Basic day rate
- AED 240.00
- Leave salary
- AED 4,800.00
Day rate = monthly basic × 12 / 365. Under 6 months: 0. From 6 to 11 months: 2 days a month. From 12 months: 30 days a year.
What does the final settlement line include?
Four amounts, added together. Gratuity on basic wage. Cash for unused annual leave, also on basic wage. Notice pay for days you did not serve, on basic wage plus the allowances you enter. Salary that is already earned and still unpaid, which you type yourself because this page cannot see a payroll. The total is an estimate for a full-time foreign worker under the federal private-sector rules.
The form does not ask whether you resigned or were dismissed. Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 does not cut the gratuity because you resigned, which is a change from the old unlimited-contract reductions. Emirates working in the private sector are pointed to the pension law instead of this formula. A ministry job, and a contract with DIFC or ADGM, uses that employer's own rules.
How is the gratuity figure produced?
The portal's end-of-service page says it was updated on 12 August 2026. I read it on 6 October 2026. A full-time worker who has completed at least one year of continuous service gets gratuity when the job ends. Days of unpaid absence are not included. Fractions of a year count once that first year is complete. The calculation uses the last basic wage, not housing, transport, utilities, or furniture. If the payslip blends them, ask HR with the salary certificate request before you treat one number as the gratuity base. Less than one year means no gratuity. From one year up to five, the page says 21 days' salary for each year. After five years, 30 days' salary for each further year. In all cases the total gratuity shall not exceed the wage of two years.
Service on this page is the inclusive calendar days from the start date through the last working day, minus unpaid leave. One year is 365 of those days, including in a leap year, so a leap day does not by itself create an extra year. Under 365 days the gratuity line is zero. The other lines can still be more than zero. At 365 days or more, the first five years earn 21 days of basic wage each and every year after that earns 30. A part year is the leftover days divided by 365. The rows under the form are produced by this same function.
Why is a day basic times 12 divided by 365?
The decree says a wage of 21 days and a wage of 30 days of basic wage. It does not say whether a day is the monthly basic divided by 30, or the yearly basic spread over 365 days. Many UAE payrolls divide by 30. This page uses monthly basic times 12, divided by 365, and it uses that same day for leave. Notice pay uses basic plus allowances, still divided on a 365-day year. If the employer divides by 30, the fils will not match. The line under the result states the assumption before you compare it with a payslip.
The cap is separate. Article 51 says the benefit does not exceed two years' wage, and the decree's definition of wage is wider than basic wage. The portal says the days are calculated on basic salary, then says the total shall not exceed the wage of two years. This page accrues the 21 and 30 days on basic wage, and stops the gratuity at 24 times basic plus the allowances you typed. Leave allowances at zero and the ceiling is 24 months of basic. On a normal career the cap does not bind. It shows when the raw days would pass two years of wage.
How are unused leave and notice pay counted?
The portal's leave page says that if you leave before using accrued annual leave, you are paid for those days on basic salary. A carried balance that is paid in cash is also on basic salary. You type the unused days. The page does not decide how many you were entitled to, because that depends on leave you already took. The cash is those days times the basic day rate.
Notice pay follows the terminating contracts page. The party who does not serve the notice pays a notice allowance even if the other side had no extra loss, based on the worker's last wage. Here that is basic plus allowances, times the unserved days. Put zero in that box if you will work the notice. The resignation page counts the last day from the resignation date if you still need that date.
Pending salary is whatever is still owed for days already worked. Type the figure you are claiming. The calculator does not invent it. The end-of-service page also says outstanding wages, other entitlements, and gratuity are due within 14 days of the end of the contract. That is a deadline, not another line in the total. The resignation visa timeline puts that 14th day on a calendar.
What if the company uses the savings scheme?
The end-of-service page describes a voluntary alternative. After enrolment, the employer stops traditional gratuity for that person and must settle gratuity accrued before enrolment. The basic subscription for a full-time employee is 5.83 percent of monthly basic salary before five years, and 8.33 percent after five years. This calculator does not estimate investment returns. To see the traditional slice, set the last day to the day before enrolment and read the fund balance from the provider's statement.
Part-time work is scaled by hours under Article 30 of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022. This form is for a full-time contract. Government expatriate benefits, on the portal's pension page, use months of basic salary rather than 21 and 30 days. The gratuity calculator is the same function with leave, notice, and pending salary left at zero. The longer read of Article 51 is UAE labour law gratuity. What JAFZA and DDA publish is in the JAFZA and DDA notes. If the basic wage came from an offer you are still reading, the offer letter explainer walks through the clauses and still treats basic wage as the gratuity base.
How does a leave salary calculator turn unused days into cash?
This leave salary calculator prices unused annual leave as unused days times the basic daily wage. That daily wage is monthly basic times 12, divided by 365, the same day the settlement form uses for leave. The annual leave calculator UAE block on this page estimates the days first. Under six months the estimate is zero. From six months up to twelve it is two days for each month of service. Once the year is complete it is 30 days a year, in proportion to the months you type, so a part year still counts. Days already taken come off that total. Eleven months is 22 days. Twelve months is 30, because the yearly rate starts once the year is complete.
A basic wage of AED 7,300 makes the day AED 240. Twelve months accrues 30 days. Ten days already taken leaves 20 unused days, and 20 times 240 is AED 4,800. Eight months accrues 16 days. With none of them taken, the cash is AED 3,840. The settlement boxes still use the unused days you type yourself. This estimate does not replace those boxes. It is general guidance, not legal advice.
