Civil Engineer CV for the UAE + Sample

A civil engineer CV format for UAE jobs: Society of Engineers membership, Dubai Municipality engineer classification, the software you used, and consultant versus contractor work. The sample is fictional. Not a municipality site.

A civil engineer CV for the UAE usually fails by collecting every software name in the advert, then adding Senior Engineer because the title sounds larger. The reader wants the discipline, the membership or accreditation you actually hold, and whether the last job was a design office or a site. I am an AI specialist in Dubai, not a civil engineer and not a licensing officer. CVPage is an independent help site, not affiliated with Dubai Municipality, the Society of Engineers, or MOHRE, and this is not legal advice. Check the live resolution before you copy a year count onto your file.

Dubai Municipality says consulting engineering offices and contracting companies sit in one regulatory framework. The municipality sets standards for licensing those firms, accrediting their staff, renewing practice certificates, and categorising activities. It says those standards are based on Circular No. 133 of 2005, which registers engineers working for consultancy offices and contracting companies in the Consultants and Contractors Register.

The municipality's services list includes a Certificate of Accreditation of Engineering Staff: obtain accreditation and register in the Engineering Practice Register to carry out engineering activities. A course certificate is not that register entry. Write the status on the letter you hold.

What should a civil engineer CV format for UAE jobs include?

Use the same header as any other UAE CV, then three lines a project director can check. One or two pages is enough. Newest job first, with months on the dates. A civil engineer CV UAE readers open is not a US resume that hides the visa, the employer type, and the drawing or the site package.

  • Header: name, Civil Engineer or the narrower title on your accreditation, city, phone with country code, email.
  • Membership: Society of Engineers in the UAE, only if you hold it, with the status you can point to. Not applied if you only opened the form.
  • Municipality: the category or activity you are registered against, the firm, and whether an exam was required and passed.
  • Employer type: consultancy or contractor. Design packages and site packages do not share one bullet.
  • Software: the one product you used for a named drawing, model, or programme. Not a logo list.
  • Visa and notice on their own lines. Leave the membership number, Emirates ID, and passport number off the file you email widely.

The wider format notes, including what to leave out of the header, are on the UAE and Gulf CV hub

How do you write Society of Engineers membership on a civil engineer CV?

Administrative Resolution No. 253 of 2021 applies to engineers working in construction at Dubai Municipality, and at engineering consultancy firms and contracting companies licensed in Dubai, when the work is engineering design, audit, control, or supervision of building construction. The schedules attached for municipality engineers and for contracting companies require membership of the Society of Engineers in the United Arab Emirates. The same resolution says engineers at consultancy firms follow the technical criteria in Administrative Resolution No. 51 of 1998, which this page does not reprint.

Sources we used: Dubai legislation: Administrative Resolution No. 253 of 2021, engineer qualification criteria

So membership is a line on those Dubai construction schedules. It is not a sentence I can stretch to every civil job in every emirate. Abu Dhabi, a free-zone design office, or a roads package may use a different register. Write member only when you can show the membership. Write not a member when you are not. Do not write the society's site approved you because a colleague said the form is usual.

The society's own website did not complete a connection when this page was checked on 19 October 2026, so I am not linking a signup screenshot or a member count from that host. The membership fact here is the one the Dubai resolution prints. Open the society's live site yourself before you describe a step the resolution does not list.

What does Dubai Municipality engineer classification mean on a CV?

Schedule 1 of the 2021 resolution is for Dubai Municipality design-audit engineers who audit construction drawings for permits. The construction-audit specialisation asks for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. The grades on that schedule are Construction Engineer, Senior Construction Engineer, and Chief Construction Engineer, with minimum experience of five, seven, and ten years. The schedule also requires Society of Engineers membership, a competency exam at 75 percent for the category, and at least 72 hours a year of training accredited by the Building Permits Department. Those grades are municipality audit posts. They are not a private job title you may borrow.

Schedule 4 is for principal construction engineers at contracting companies, and the resolution defines that term as an establishment in building contracting or steel construction contracting in Dubai. One row, for an unlimited number of floors, lists civil-engineering site engineers at ten, seven, and five years, and a maximum area of 18,000 square metres per engineer. The Ground+1 row lists three years for a bachelor's degree and five years for a diploma, and 6,000 square metres. The schedule says all of those engineers must be Society of Engineers members and must have passed the technical competency exams prescribed in Dubai. Other rows use other year counts. Read the row that matches the building, and do not collapse the table into one number.

The municipality's contractor FAQ says an engineer can sit an accreditation exam before the company licence is issued, because the exams are open to individuals and companies. Where the activity requires an exam, registration is not complete until the engineer has passed and has met the experience standard. The company then adds the engineer against the activity on the practice permit in the Dubai Engineering Qualification system. Exam booked is not exam passed. Passed is not yet added to the permit.

On the CV, write the grade and the activity printed on the accreditation, and the firm that holds the permit. A line that matches the FAQ looks like this: Dubai Municipality, registered on the contractor's practice permit for building contracting, competency exam passed. Or: exam not taken, not on the register. Do not write classified Grade 1. That label is not the wording of the schedules used here.

Which software line is honest on a civil engineer CV?

AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Primavera P6, and ETABS are product names a Dubai advert likes to collect in one sentence. They are not one skill. If you produced the reinforcement drawings in AutoCAD, write AutoCAD and the drawing set. If you built the corridor model in Civil 3D, write that model. If you updated a three-week look-ahead in Primavera P6 that the planner issued, write the update. If you ran an ETABS model for the lateral system, write the model and who signed it. A file you opened once is not the product.

I am not ranking the products, and I have not counted how many Dubai offices use each one. A logo list is not evidence. Name the product you can open in an interview and walk through a file that was yours.

How does a consultant CV differ from a contractor CV?

The resolution splits them. Consultancy engineers are pointed to the 1998 criteria. Contracting companies in building and steel are on Schedule 4. A design CV talks about the drawing, the check, and the submission. A site CV talks about the package on the ground, the inspection, and the programme you actually updated. Swapping the noun is how a file gets caught.

The municipality's contracting-activities classification keeps building contracting, road contracting, sewage and drainage contracting, water pipelines and stations, and bridges and dams as separate activities. A villa package is not a bridge package. Write the activity you were on. Do not add the others because the PDF lists them.

Sources we used: Dubai Municipality: engineering contracting activities classification

  • Consultant: the discipline on the title block, the drawings you produced or checked, and the submission you packed. Say if someone else signed.
  • Contractor: the site, the package, and the inspections or pours you attended. Say if you were not the engineer named on the permit.
  • Do not move Schedule 4 year counts onto a design office. The resolution sends consultancy staff to a different text.
  • Do not describe a roads package with the building-control grades. Those grades are for building construction on the schedules cited here.

What does a fictional UAE civil engineer CV look like?

The sample is invented. The phone number is not real. Do not copy the employer or the years. If a line is not true of you, delete it. This is not the accountant sample with the job title changed. There is no VAT return here, because this engineer did not prepare one.

Fictional sample. Civil engineer in Dubai. Not a real person.

Nationality: Lebanon
Visa: employment residence, current employer. A new job needs a new MoHRE permit.
Notice: 30 days, as written in the contract
Degree: bachelor's in civil engineering. Not a master's.
Society of Engineers, UAE: member. Not a Chief Construction Engineer.
Dubai Municipality: registered on the contractor's practice permit for building contracting. Competency exam passed. Not a design-audit post.
Software: AutoCAD for the shop drawings I marked up. Primavera P6 only to follow the planner's three-week look-ahead. No Civil 3D. No ETABS.
Membership number and Emirates ID are not on this file.

Qanat Building Contracting LLC, Dubai
Site engineer
August 2022 to present
Marked up reinforcement shop drawings in AutoCAD for a Ground+4 residential building. Did not sign the design.
Attended the pour inspections the consultant's engineer called, and wrote the same-day note in the site book.
Followed the planner's Primavera look-ahead. Did not build the baseline programme.
The package was building contracting. Not roads, not bridges, not a design office.

Beirut Line Consultants, Beirut
Junior structural draughtsman
January 2019 to May 2022
Home-country drawing work. Not a Dubai Municipality registration and not a UAE Society of Engineers membership.

Farid's file is a contractor, a building package, one drawing tool, and a municipality line that stops where his permit stops. A bridge engineer, a roads engineer, or a design lead needs a different file. Do not reuse his Ground+4 pours for a consultancy submission.

What mistakes are specific to a civil engineer CV in the UAE?

  • Writing Society of Engineers member when you have not been accepted.
  • Writing Senior or Chief because Schedule 1 prints those grades for municipality auditors.
  • Copying the contractor year counts onto a consultancy job the 1998 text still governs.
  • Listing AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Primavera P6, and ETABS because the advert did.
  • Calling a site package a design role, or a villa a bridge, because both are civil.
  • Putting a project value, a concrete volume, or a team size you cannot show.
  • Printing the membership number or the Emirates ID on a CV you email widely.
  • Copying an accountant or driver sample and changing only the job title.

Where do the visa line and the degree sit?

Working in the UAE without a valid MoHRE work permit is illegal. A municipality accreditation does not replace that permit, and the CV does not create it.

Sources we used: UAE government portal: MoHRE work permits

The accreditation says what engineering activity you are registered for. The visa line says which permit route an employer would be dealing with. The notice line says when you can start. Someone still abroad, or inside the UAE on a visit entry, should say that in words. A strong software line does not imply a residence you do not hold. If the degree is not attested, do not write attested because a colleague said it is usual.

Section order, length, and what to leave out of the header are in the UAE CV format guide

Wording for employment residence, a visit entry, and applying from abroad is in the visa-status guide

A finance file names VAT and the ledger, not a practice permit. That sample stays in the accountant CV for Dubai

The number you write has to match the contract. The range after probation is explained in the notice-period guide

Keep the membership line and the software line in normal reading order. A two-column design can bury them. Paste the file into the parser test

Common questions

Can I write Society of Engineers member if I only started the application?

No. Write the status you hold. Administrative Resolution No. 253 of 2021 requires membership on the Dubai construction schedules it attaches. An unfinished form is not that membership.

Are Senior Engineer and Chief Engineer titles I can use after five years?

Not from this page. On Schedule 1 those words are Dubai Municipality design-audit grades, with five, seven, and ten years, plus an exam and training hours. Write the grade on your own letter, or do not write a grade.

Should a consultant CV use the contractor year counts?

No. The resolution says engineers at consultancy firms follow Administrative Resolution No. 51 of 1998. Schedule 4 is for building and steel contracting companies. Keep the employer type honest.

Do I list every civil software product I have seen?

No. Name the product you used and the drawing, model, or programme. A logo list is not a project. CVPage is not Dubai Municipality and not the Society of Engineers.
